Should my solution file necessarily contain all of my ASP.NET project items?
In my web project, should the solution file contain the entire project - as in all.aspx,.ascx,.cs,.config files?
Or should it only contain the.cs and.aspx files for the public facing content of the web project?
What are the pros and cons for each approach? Also, is there any other information I should take into consideration when deciding what to include in my solution file?
I would always include all of those files that pertain to the public facing content, as well as any of the service or class dlls.
You should not include a project file containing a ASP.NET project in a web deployment project. The project file will be fine for a local development machine, but on a production site you need to be careful not to break functionality.
The project file, as well as all of the other files you mentioned, must be part of the content that is to be deployed to a web site.
I would include everything for simplicity - if you create a feature, and click on publish (not deploy), you want to be able to see that you have a feature to edit. As far as I know, both of these approaches have worked for me.
I always include the.Web and.Web.csproj files. I like the.web.csproj file because it represents a build-in project so I do not need to create one.
